Germany and Korea both have ambitious net-zero targets for 2045 and 2050 respectively. In the mobility sector, a strong market ramp-up of electric vehicles (EVs) is required in both countries. The resulting increased electricity demand is seen as potentially challenging for the power grid, especially in combination with more volatile renewable energy sources. At the same time, EVs are a promising flexibility option that can make an important contribution to grid stability and can ease the integration of renewables. The workshop will therefore assess the flexibility potential, identify challenges and develop solutions and best practices for the successful and efficient grid integration of EVs in Germany and Korea.

On the first day (30. August), the workshop will focus on policy measures that enable and advance the flexibilization of power grids, with country-specific reference to Germany and Korea. On the second day (31. August), the practical implementation of related projects from industry and research will be highlighted on the basis of existing pilot and demonstration projects. Different expert inputs and an overview study on the short-term flexibility potential of electric vehicles in Germany and Korea will serve as a basis for discussion. We look forward to an interesting exchange.
