The South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany (BMWK) have been promoting cooperation in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency through the Korean-German Energy Partnership.
Keeping the ambitious net zero goals of both countries in mind, a rapid decarbonization of all sectors of their respective economies, including industry, will be necessary. While this necessarily entails a broad energy transition, efficiency can both accelerate and facilitate the green transformation by reducing the need for new energy infrastructure.
Even though both Korea and Germany have already made significant progress in this regard, further advances can therefore be instrumental for the achievement of net zero goals. At the same time both countries' achievements open opportunities for learning from one another.
To enable such learning and support the achievement of net zero in both countries, this Fireplace Talk on energy efficiency in industry is therefore aimed at providing a platform for exchange between experts and stakeholders from Korea and Germany.
